With its location at the border, Padborg Transportcenter serves as Denmark’s gateway to Europe. More than 32 million tonnes of goods cross the Southern Jutland border each year by truck or train, corresponding to just under half of all freight transport across Denmark’s borders. This makes Padborg, without comparison, an absolute centre for Denmark’s international trade.
International truck traffic has long been growing strongly. Since 2012, truck traffic has increased by 20%, and over the past 30 years there has been an almost threefold increase in the volume of import and export goods transported by truck.
In 2020, almost 55 million tonnes were transported in Denmark, compared with just over 20 million tonnes in 1992. Such a significant increase underscores how important international cooperation on transport and trade is.
